Iberdrola has been awarded as one of the 12 largest European companies that collaborate most with startups in Europe , according to the Europe’s Corporate Startup Stars Awards.
These awards, recently presented by the Vice President of the European Commission, Jyrki Katainen, recognize the work carried out by large European corporations that are committed to innovation through the promotion and collaboration in the development of technological startups .
The company chaired by Ignacio Sánchez Galán, among the winners for the second consecutive year, has been part of the Top 12 Corporate Startup Stars, being the only Spanish company in this category that recognizes the leading corporations in Europe.
Likewise, the energy company has also received a special mention in the Startup Procurement Award category, for the pilot technology projects and purchases made with startups.
Iberdrola created its startup program Perseo ten years ago , in which it has invested more than 55 million euros since then and has carried out numerous pilot projects in technologies that favor the sustainability of the energy model.
The ranking of companies that most support startups in the Old Continent was led by Samsung Electronics, KPN and Sodexo . They completed the “top 12”, together with Iberdrola, AB InBev, Barclays, Bosch, Centrica, Enel, KBC Group, MasterCard and Vodafone.
Another group of 24 European companies were also awarded for their promotion of startups in the Open Innovation Challengers category. This category includes the Spanish companies Acciona, Banco Sabadell, BBVA, Ferrovial and Santander.
Individually, BBVA received the Corporate Startup Acquisition award and Acciona won the Open Innovation Innovative Approach.
These awards highlight the work of the 36 major European companies that have managed to create collaboration models between corporations and startups with profitable results for innovation and the consolidation of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
